Welcome
My name is Amanda Pierce and I am currently a SPIRE postdoctoral fellow at the University of North Carolina working with Karin Pfennig. I completed my graduate work with Jaap de Roode in the Population Biology, Ecology, and Evolution Program at Emory University. April 2017- New paper out in Proc B! Effect of novel habitat and hybridization on range expansion genetics.
January 2017- Began as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke as part of my postdoctoral fellowship. I'm creating and teaching a course on Ecology & Evolution of Disease.
September 2016- Review paper with Karin Pfennig and Audrey Kelly out in Proc B examining the role of hybridization in range expansion.
July 2016- I had the honor to participate in the SACNAS Summer Leadership Institute. A transformative experience with amazing people.
June 2016- Former Emory mentee, Yiwen Helen Li, just had her very first first-author manuscript accepted for publication! Variation in wing morphology in monarch butterflies coming out in Animal Migration.
May 2016- Rafael Gutierrez was awarded a SSE undergrad diversity at Evolution travel award! He'll present a poster on our recent work.
May 2016- I received a travel award and gave an oral presentation at the Genetics of Admixed Populations SMBE Satellite Meeting in San Antonio, Texas
Jan 2016- My recent publication with Leiling Tao and Jaap de Roode examining the Na/K pump gene sequence across monarch butterfly populations is now out in Biological Journal of Linnean Society.
Oct 2015- Congrats to my UNC undergrad, Rafael Gutierrez, on receiving the Tom and Elizabeth Long Research Award for his work investigating the Plains spadefoot toad range expansion!
